Bring a useful question list to the quote conversation
Select the situations that apply to you, then build a list you can print or download. The list starts with core policy questions and adds questions for your selected topics. It helps you ask for an explanation; it does not evaluate coverage or tell you whether an insurer will accept an application.
You do not need to enter your name, address, email, employer or any policy number. Selections are kept only in this page. Download a copy if you want to keep it after leaving.
Your questions for the insurer
This is an educational discussion list, not coverage confirmation. Ask the insurer or licensed agent to explain the actual contract and keep any written answers with your quote documents.

- What triggers additional living expenses coverage, and what dollar limit, time limit and approval process apply?
- Which important exclusions, special property limits and optional endorsements should I read before buying?
- What effective date, insured names and proof-of-insurance documents will appear, and do they match my lease requirements?

Turn answers into a clearer comparison
Ask for the relevant policy form or endorsement when an answer affects your decision. Write down which company and quote the answer applies to. Avoid assuming an answer for one quote carries over to another quote with a similar price.
The quote comparison worksheet gives you a place to organize limits and terms. Use the illustrated policy-reading guide when a term is unfamiliar, and check the apartment insurance requirements guide before sending proof to your property manager.
Policy terms can treat particular belongings, storage arrangements and living situations differently. The primary-source references below explain why it is useful to ask about the actual policy rather than rely on its name alone.
