What would it cost to replace your things?
Add an estimate for each category using today’s replacement prices. This worksheet helps organize your belongings; it does not calculate an insurance quote or recommend a policy limit.
Use the renters insurance checklist for a room-by-room approach to contents coverage, lease requirements, and policy comparisons. You can also print a blank planning worksheet.
When your estimate is ready, enter comparable limits in the quote comparison worksheet or build a question list for your insurer.
How to make your estimate useful
- Walk through each room. Include small items, not just expensive purchases.
- Use a reasonable current price for a similar replacement. Avoid counting the same item twice.
- Keep photos, receipts and a more detailed list somewhere accessible if your home is damaged.
- Ask your provider about special limits for jewelry, bicycles, business equipment or other valuable property. This worksheet does not apply those limits.
- Review how replacement cost and actual cash value differ before comparing policies.
What this tool leaves out
The subtotal does not calculate liability coverage, additional living expenses, a deductible, a premium, or what an insurer would pay. It also does not decide whether a cause of loss is covered. Discuss the relevant limits and endorsements with a licensed insurance professional.
Downloaded files and printed copies may contain financial estimates. Store them somewhere you trust. This tool does not save entries to an account or browser storage.
